Has the organisation showed any intention at this stage that they want to go for it this season?

Any indication or messages from the heirachy about a long term plan? Now or from the start of the season? I didn't read much about the organisations bjectives other than be competative straight away. Was there any direction from McPhee about what the structure was going to be - Go hard as possible straight away, or develop the depth with the draft no matter how well the team is going in the first few seasons?

There's no doubt at the beginning of the season, the focus was on the long-term. For example, trading Pickard in favor of the unproven Subban. Now? I think they don't know either. My guess, unless there's a total collapse, is hold your cards until the Deadline, see where the team is then.

I'll have a good talk with a former NHL GM about the Vegas "problem" up tomorrow.

It's a great problem to have - especially from the NHL prospective.

My thoughts would always be stay true to the long term & really go to town with the trades they can make now. But, you don't always get an opportunity to get a look at going deep into the playoffs & a possible scf.

Very difficult situation. I think Bettman will want them going hard for a Cup, while the sensible choice would be to trade away & grab 2, 3 or 4 1st round picks if they can.

There's also the question of who they keep/lock up long term.

Can't see them keeping Neal/Perron/Marchesseault without the intention of signing them to new contracts.

If McPhee keeps his original plan, gotta expect these guys to be traded for prospects or picks.... which would be a tough pill to swallow for the team and the fans.
